FTH Jive Talker Retires!

One the of the best greyhounds in recent memory is headed to a soft couch after a long and productive career here on the Jacksonville Racing Circuit.

Fth Jive Talker (Whistlers Ike – BB Princess Kit) got a little bit of each of his parents passed on to him and with this combination he was a threat on or off the early lead. Whistlers Ike was a blazing early speed greyhound that was not short at the end of the race and it is really too bad that he never got a real chance to show his true potential. Mom, on the other hand was a big time closer that race 660 and 770 yards. Putting this all together you got a greyhound that could go to the turn with a solid rush and had tremendous speed coming down the stretch.

Thru most of his great career he use both to his benefit and the wider he got, the more dominating he became. Just look at his record from the 8 box. He was 23 of 24 in the money, with 16 wins, including victories in his first 13 races from this post position.

But this was not the only post that he could win from. He was a versatile greyhound that was never caught on the lead in any race in his career. Over all Jive Talker won 56 races in 156 starts and was in the money a combined 111 times, (156/56-26-24-5), and a ton of those efforts came against the best greyhounds at the racetrack. Although he didn’t win a stakes final, he ran in 6 of them and competed in 9 stakes events throughout his career.

His best showings were when he was still just a pup. He was second in the finals of the Night of Stars XVIII race by less than a length, and backed that up with a undefeated run thru qualifying in the 2006 JGR Juvenile, only to finish 4th in the finals. In 2007 he gave another greyhound a scare as he was second once again to Platinum Perfect by a length in the finals of the First Coast Classic.

All in all, Fth Jive Talker was a threat to win in every race that he was entered into even at 4 1/2 years old. For 3 years he left it all on the racetrack and if he drew an outside post position, he was going to factor in the money no matter what happened in the race. In his prime he was frankly unbeatable from the outside and on the days that he wanted to run, you would have been hard pressed to beat him from any box at any time.

From everyone here at the Orange Park Kennel Club we would like to say thank you for letting us watch you run. Thanks for giving you all in each and every effort. Thanks for showing the power and determination that solidifies just what a racing greyhound should be, and congratulations to you for a tremendous career. Now go and get on that couch and start enjoying your new career as a great pet to a lucky family.

Isn’t it a shame it is so hard to adapt to retirement?  This is day 1 in his new home.

Frends, I make ma case: Mama Caffie habs reported to me dat it habs been too cold at nite fur da Muddletts to sleep in der outside run wiff delux stuffy filled dog condominium. Dis is a kind and caring thot, rite? So da very kind and nice peeple who are in charge of looking over such things habs eggstended a cordiall invitation to da girls to pleeze come inside to sleep. Well, little Miss Too Big Fur Her Stripes habs reacted on nite one wiff a loud voice of protest, but evenchually, she went inside. OK, I can see dat–makin some noise. Chanje is hard. Butt da last nite? Mama Caffie says it was gonna be 20 degrees American. Well, dat is too cold for a yung houndie! So her staff came to essgort her in, and dat wicked little girl try to BITE dem!!!!!

I get it–yu are woman, hear yu roar! Butt sometimes yu cant habs everything yur way! Dis is da troof, and all gud houndies habs to learn dis.

Whot wood happen to us iffen we got to eat as much as we want? Why we’d look like sausages wiff toofpick legs! Whot wood happen if everytime I wanted to drink Chikken Arms coffee I did? Why I wood probably habs a hart attak frum all dat caffeen! Whot wood happen iffen everytime I saw a nice pare of Miss Cara-Leas jimjams, I stole Mommys credit card and bot dem? Whot wood happen iffen everytime yu wanted to make a tinkle, yu did, no matter ware yu were? Wait…yu habs KNOT learned about “house braking” yet. Sometimes we habs to trust are peeple. When dey tried to bring yu inside, it was fur yur own good! So yu cud be warm inside!

Adopted! Destin to Dream “Jessie”

Update!  2/7/09 – Jessie, now to be known as Dream, moved to her new home with John Read.  She will live with another greyhound named Hope.  John has already discovered what a snuggle bug Dream is, and he’s very happy with his new baby girl.  Thank you, John!  Thank you, Denise and Janet – for making sure she was easily transitioned from track life to foster to forever home.  XOXOXO

Jessie is in a foster home with Denise, who lives in Tennessee.  I just got this note from Denise to help potential adopters know if she might fit in their home:

Jessie loves to play with toys and snuggle with her people. She gets along with all her greyhound housemates, including the cats. She has learned how to sit and lay down for a treat. Her house-training is going very good, with no accidents in the house. She has learned how to go up and down stairs. She walks well on leash.

She would be good for the first time greyhound adopter, or as an addition to a multi-dog home. Jessie hasn’t been tested with children, but because she has a fun personality, she would most likely do very well with children.

Jessie is a happy easy going girl, who knows she’s adorable, and loves attention.

Please contact me at wmlcml6@gmail.com if you have any questions about sweet little Jessie.  ~Cathie~

Tuffy (long legged lean brindle male - very outgoing and energetic)
John (red brindle male with white markings - nice personality)
Spirit (shy, smaller brindle boy)
Lefty (shy, light fawn male)
Boston (shy, currently living in a foster home and progressing very nicely)
Rebel (pending cat and alone test – going to Canada in March)
Reno (to Atlanta on 1/13/09; needs to be at  GAP on Monday)

We also have the last of "Baby's Babies" available.  Jessie (Destin to Dream) is part of a litter of 10 wonderful greyhounds, and is currently in a foster home in Tennesee.  She is a small dark brindle girl, housetrained, affectionate, and would love a home of her own.  Click here for a video of Baby's Babies, created by Janet Shaffer (who adopted Peanut from this litter).
I will add pictures this weekend.  ~Cathie~
